The Iranian flag is very much a symbol of the Islamic Revolution in 1979-80. The basic design of the flag of Iran is three horizontal bands of green above white above red, symbolizing vigour, peace, and courage. The script reads Allahu Akbar ("God is Great") 22 times. The central emblem is a stylised depiction of Allah, the Quran and The Sword, representing Muslim life.
February 11th is a key day for flying the flag. It is then the country celebrates the Victory of the Islamic Revolution.
