The Egypt flag is the national emblem of the Egyptians. The colours are traditional Pan-Arabic colors. The red stripe refers to the period before the 1952 revolution when a group army officers came to power after deposing King Farouk, the King of Egypt. This period was characterised by the struggle against British occupation of the country. The white symbolises the revolution which ended the monarchy without bloodshed. The color black symbolises the end of the oppression of the Egyptians at the hands of the Monarchy and British colonialism. The Eagle of Saladin dominates the centre with the name of the country in Arabic underneath.
The flag is proudly waved at the Africa Nations Cup where the Egyptian football team are always well supported. It is a criminal offense to abuse not just this flag, but any other foreign flags or national emblems.
