The Bhutanese flag was designed and established in 1965, when the maroon color was replaced by orange and the shape of the dragon was modified. The dragon on the flag of Bhutan represents the name of the country and the colour of the dragon represents the purity and loyalty of Bhutan.
The yellow area on the Flag of Bhutan stands for the fruitful action of the king in affairs of religion, and the orange colour represents the religious practices of the Bhutanese.
The flag is most displayed on the national day of December 17th.
