The flag of Benin (Dahorney) was first adopted in 1959, and re-established in 1990. The flag is made up of three classic pan-African colours. The green denotes the hope for renewal, the red evokes the Beninese peoples courage, and the yellow refers to the riches of the country.
The flag is raised during celebrations of independence from France every August 1st.
