The national flag of Antigua and Barbuda was adopted on 1967 and was designed by a nationally acclaimed artist and sculptor, Sir Reginald Samuel.
The rising sun symbolises the dawning of a new era. The colours have different meanings - the black is for the African ancestry of the people, the blue for hope and the red for the dynamism of the people. The sun, sand and sea are represented by the flag's combination of yellow, blue and white.
This Caribbean Island celebrates Independence Day on November 1st and the flag plays a critical role.
