Frequently Asked Questions

Can Harrisons install for me?

Harrisons offer a full installation and maintenance package if required.

Is everything included?

All Harrison poles are sold complete with all accessories including the ground fixing method.

What do I need to consider when choosing a FLAGPOLE?
  1. Your location.
  2. Height of the Pole
  3. Wind Speeds
  4. Foundation
  5. Security
Do I need to ground a fibreglass flagpole?

Unlike Aluminium, fibreglass does not conduct electricity and therefore it is not necessary to ground the pole.

Can I store my fibreglass pole in it's packaging outside before I install?

Yes you can. Unlike aluminium the external finish of our fibreglass flagpoles will not react with any chemical in the packaging or rainwater and is therefore not vulnerable to discoloration.

What is the benefit of having a hinged baseplate compared to a ground tube?

With a hinged base plate a pole can be lowered for cleaning and maintenance with relative ease.  Groundsleeve poles are quicker to install but are equally more difficult to lift out of the sleeve for maintenance.

What makes one pole different from another?
  1. What it’s made from.
  2. It’s height
  3. It’s finish and or colour.
  4. It’s technical specification (Butt diameter, wall thickness etc.)
  5. Halyard system (internal or external)
  6. How it is fixed/installed.
What is the difference between internal and external halyard?

External halyard flagpoles have the halyard rope and cleat on the outside of the pole. Once the flag is raised into position the halyard rope is secured by wrapping around the cleat.

Internal halyard flagpoles have an anti vandal system. The halyard rope is inside the flagpole and is only accessible via a small lockable door. Once the flag is raised into position, the halyard is secured against a sprung cleat inside the pole and the door can be fitted and locked.

What do I need to install?

You will need to source your own concrete for the foundation.

Can I dig and set the foundation and install the pole in one day?

We recommend that concrete should be allowed to cure properly before the pole is fully installed

Do I need to take my fibreglass flagpole out of it's packaging when I get it?

We recommend you take the pole out of it’s packaging only to inspect it has not been damaged in transit.

Are all poles one piece?

Harrison manufacture most of their poles in one section.  Poles above 12 metres can be made in one or two sections for ease of transport.

How strong are your poles?

A Fibreglass hinged baseplate flagpole that has been installed as per our instructions will withstand winds of 100 mph while flying a flag of not more than 25% of the height of the flagpole.

Does the pole come with installation instructions?

All of our flagpoles come with a set of installation instructions which can be found in the accessory box. In the unlikely event that these instructions are missing you  can find  full instructions on our website or alternatively call us.

How much space should I allow around the pole?

Your flag size will dictate how near or far you will need to be from the nearest object.  It’s a good idea to allow plenty of space particularly if  you will want to fly a larger flag at a later date. It’s also a good idea to consider proximity to trees and bushes.

What is the difference between Aluminium and Fibreglass?

Fibreglass flagpoles have an outer gel coat and layers of Glass fibre to build the thickness of the flagpole. The high white finish of a fibreglass flagpole is built into the gel coat and will not scratch off or peel away over time.

Aluminium flagpoles unless specified are finished to a satin brushed exterior surface which will over time oxidise. The flagpole can also be anodised a silver satin finish or powder coated to avoid discolouration. Unlike fibreglass aluminium will conduct electricity and earthing a flagpole made from aluminium is strongly recommended.
